The Power of Human Stories — Episode 01: Rob Ricotta

The first episode of The Power of Human Stories is a special one for me.

My guest is Rob Ricotta, a voice actor, musician, and longtime friend. We have known each other for over a decade, and in many ways, our creative journeys have run in parallel. I remember reaching out to him early on when I was just starting out, hoping his voice could elevate a small project I was working on. He said yes. That simple moment turned into years of collaboration and friendship.

In this conversation, we go all the way back to the beginning. Rob grew up in a small mountain town in North Carolina, where he first discovered his love for performance. It was not because he had some grand plan, but because he loved to play, make people laugh, and create. Over time, those instincts turned into opportunities. He worked in radio, studied music overseas, toured as a drummer, and eventually built a career in voice acting.

What stood out most to me was not the list of brands he has worked with or the stages he has performed on. It was the thread underneath all of it. He has constantly navigated the tension between chasing opportunities and staying grounded in who he is.

Rob talks honestly about the reality of creative work. The pivots. The uncertainty. The moments where you reach something you thought you wanted, only to realize there are deeper questions about fulfillment, health, and purpose. At one point, he shared that he would trade the spotlight of a packed arena for the quiet of a voiceover booth, because that is where he felt most like himself.

That is really what this podcast is about.

Not the highlight reel, but the journey underneath it.

If you have ever wondered how someone ends up doing the work they do, and what it costs, what it gives, and what it teaches along the way, I think you will find something meaningful in Rob’s story.
